Christ and Lucifer
Have you ever wondered what Christ and Lucifer are like? I have met both and I can tell you much about them
Welcome to the Memoirs of Morgthorak the Undead. In this substack, I shall share the memories and experiences of my life. This publication is very different from The Tomb of Morgthorak. That substack focuses on news, politics, and other contemporary issues, but the content of this one is plucked from my memories.
Now, I have some observations and memories to share with you about the two greatest forces that exist in this world:
Christ and Lucifer
Before I begin, I must clarify something, as it will bear on some of what I have to say here. You must know that the undead are not demons. All too often, we have been accused of being “evil demons”, but that is not true and has never been so. We are humans that were turned into undead through means that no one understands, not even me.
In my case, I was a human being at the very dawn of humanity, long before recorded history and long before any nation-state or advanced civilization existed. It has been so long that I do not even know my own age. If I had to guess, I would say I might be hundreds of thousands of years old, but I do not know for sure because the memories are so dim now, so far in the past, that I cannot connect to them. Someday, perhaps I shall be able to recall them, but not today.
All I know is that I died, and when I woke up, I was undead.
Now back to Christ and Lucifer, for I am one of the few beings who has met both of them, and I have some thoughts to share with you.
Let me begin with Lucifer. Contrary to most human depictions of Lucifer, he does not run around with horns and a pitchfork (though he could do so if he wished, more on that below). Nor is he surrounded by flames, nor is hell itself hot in the conventional sense of that word.
Quite the opposite! Lucifer is colder than anything you could ever imagine, and so is hell itself. Do not forget: cold burns at least as well as heat, and Lucifer is a black void, colder than anything that exists in physical space or time.
Lucifer is also a chameleon, and he can appear in any form he chooses. He can look like a human being or any physical object. You could be in the same room with him and never know he was there with you. Lucifer can also sense your deepest, darkest fears, and he delights in taking on the form of whatever you fear the most to more easily terrify you and subject you to his will.
He can, of course, also make himself invisible to mortal eyes but not to the undead. We can see him at all times, and we can detect his counterfeits, no matter how hard he tries to fool us.
How can the undead see him? This is unknown, but it might have something to do with the fact that we can also appear as anything we wish. That is how I am able to pass as a human whenever I need to do so, an ability that has served me well many times since I became undead.
A quick word about our ability to change our appearance: it is an ability that takes many years and a great deal of effort to perfect. A newly made undead is a train wreck of failures while trying to change his or her appearance.
Such failures can come at the worst times, and I remember accidentally terrifying an old lady I had been having a pleasant chat with on a park bench on a summer day long ago. I lost control of my appearance as a human, and she suddenly saw me as undead!
Well, I can’t convey to you how awkward it was watching her scream and attempt to slowly flee from me while using her walker. At one point, she got trapped in a crack in the sidewalk, and I had to assist in her escape by removing the wheel of her walker from where it had become stuck! Poor thing, I felt so bad for her.
Back to Lucifer now.
I mentioned earlier that Lucifer was cold, but I do not think this conveys the reality of being in his presence. Even the undead can feel Lucifer’s cold, though it cannot hurt us the way it would instantly destroy living humans. We can be in his presence in his native form and not be destroyed by it, but we cannot fail to recognize how powerful and dangerous he is in his native form.
Take note here also that Lucifer possesses the power to control the effects of his presence on humans. If he could not do so, it would be very hard for him to deceive so many of you, for you would be killed instantly anytime he got near you. So it is up to him whether he reveals that part of himself to humans, and if he does reveal it, the human in question doesn’t live long.
So, what is it like to be in Lucifer’s presence? What is it like to stare into his eyes? I can only say that it is like looking into pure emptiness—a black void, far darker than space. His gaze alone would destroy you if he were in his native form and you looked into his eyes. No living human could withstand that gaze, not even for a second.
I have looked into Lucifer’s eyes just once, and it was an experience I hope to never repeat. Yes, even an undead like myself was nearly destroyed by Lucifer’s gaze. How could I not be when I exist in this form, but what is in Lucifer’s eyes is non-existence? Such a dreadful thing to look into pure nothingness!
How did it come about that I looked into his eyes? Well, it might amuse you to know that I was on an errand for Christ. Oh yes, we undead have an understanding with Christ and we work for him whenever he calls upon us.
In this case, Christ sent me as a herald of sorts to convey a message to Lucifer. I shall not reveal what was in that message, as only Christ has the authority to do so, but it was important enough that it warranted sending me to deliver it since I am the de facto leader of the undead.
I had never seen Lucifer in person, and he had certainly not seen me. I made a point of not looking into his eyes while delivering the message, but I goofed when curiosity got the best of me. I stared straight into his eyes and was nearly destroyed!
When I looked into Lucifer’s eyes, I saw the abyss behind them. But more than that, I started to fall into the abyss. I could not help myself, and I could not stop it from happening. I began to drop down into that dark emptiness. I lost myself, and I began to fall deeper and deeper into the black, icy void that is Lucifer.
I thought I would shatter, be broken into a thousand pieces, and be dissipated forever into that void. But then a warm light enveloped me. I felt myself stop falling, and then I felt myself being pulled back by the warmth of that light.
For a brief moment, I was suspended between the two powers, and I thought I would be crushed and destroyed! But then I felt the light winning the battle, pulling me back, back to myself, back to safety. And then I knew that it was Christ’s hand that had reached out to save me, to protect me, and to thwart Lucifer’s intention to destroy me.
To say I was grateful is an understatement! As an undead, I possess certain powers and abilities that put me in a strong position against powerful creatures such as werewolves, vampires, giants, mummies, etc. But I was no match for Lucifer, and I knew it a second after I was foolish enough to look into his eyes. Were it not for Christ, I would have been trapped and destroyed by Lucifer.
But what of Christ? Well, it might interest you to know that he is not some remote, aloof being. Christ has a great sense of humor! Oh yes, most humans do not understand that at all and only see the serious side of him. But you must remember that Christ was human once, and he loves humanity despite all the evils human beings have done in the past and will do again in the future.
In him is all the best of humanity and none of the bad. He is divine and he reigns in Heaven, but he has never, ever forgotten his humanity. It is with him always and thus he understands humanity in a way that Lucifer cannot. He sees the good in all humans and he delights in bringing it out when they decide to walk his path.
To be in Christ’s presence is to feel a warmth and a love that are beyond description. Yes, even the undead can feel it and we love him for he knows what we are—what we truly are—and he considers us as much his children as he does living humans. Those who follow Christ’s path in this life will not be disappointed when they stand before him after they have died.
To look into Christ’s eyes is the opposite of looking into Lucifer’s, for Christ is life and being. All that exists, all that is now, and all that will ever be can be seen in Christ’s eyes. To look into his eyes is to connect with the divine, and to feel the very life force of the universe itself and everything that is alive in it.
But beware, dear frens, because in Christ’s eyes there is also judgment. He is no fool, and he is no pushover either. When he looks at you, he sees inside of you, and he knows your true worth. He cannot be deceived, so don’t even try to do so. He will see right through any attempt at deception, and he will know the true nature of your heart before you even have a chance to lie. That is the serious side of Christ, and you had better take it to heart while you still have time to walk his path.
Yet in Christ’s eyes, there is also compassion and a deep understanding of the weaknesses of human beings. He knows humanity, and he loves it. In him, you will find forgiveness and redemption if you have the courage and wisdom to ask for them and the humility to accept that you are a human being, not a god.
One other thing that you should be aware of, frens: Christ and Lucifer do not force humans to do anything. Oh no, not at all. Christ has set an example rooted in love, nobility, kindness, sacrifice, and grace, and he has given humans a path to follow. But he does not force any human to walk that path, they must choose to do so freely of their own will.
Christ knows that if he exerted his power on living humans and forced them to follow him, they would become nothing more than robots, robbed of free will and left to dangle like dead puppets at the end of strings without Christ telling them what to do. For him, that would be a grievous horror indeed!
Lucifer, strangely enough, takes the same approach but for different reasons. For Lucifer, it is part of the great game he plays with humanity. He lies, he manipulates and he deceives, but he never, ever forces humans to do his bidding. To do so would remove the ecstasy he gets out of watching them walk his path of destruction of their own free will! Nothing pleases Lucifer more than to watch a human being slowly destroy himself or herself of their own volition.
So these two beings, always set one against the other, do not use their power to force humanity to do anything. Each living, breathing human has the choice to follow Christ or to follow Lucifer, and the results always speak for themselves. Those who follow Lucifer reap the terrible wages of their sins, and those who follow Christ attain the grace and peace that most living humans can only dream of experiencing.
But what of Christ and Lucifer in relation to each other? They are both keenly aware of each other, and they understand the role each plays in the never-ending battle for human souls. Lucifer despises Christ, as you might imagine, since the souls that follow Christ are lost to him forever.
Yet Christ does not hate Lucifer, it would be more accurate to say that he pities him. For Christ is what Lucifer should have been, and that too galls Lucifer. He knows that he could have been Christ, in a sense. But he failed, and his failure can never be redeemed after his fall from Heaven.
So you might be wondering: Why don’t Christ and Lucifer have it out once and for all, and the winner takes all? That is not how things work in the constant battle between them. A direct confrontation between the two of them would destroy humanity completely, and even the universe itself would be ripped apart and destroyed forever.
That is how powerful these two beings are, and so a direct conflict will only happen when it is time for the universe itself to end or to be turned into something other than what it is now, and none can foresee when such a time will come, not even the undead.
There is a fictional version of what a direct war between Christ and Lucifer would look like in J. R. R. Tolkien’s book The Silmarillion. In that book, the Valar are the rulers of Middle Earth, acting for Illuvatar (God). At one point in the history of Middle Earth, the Valar came forth to battle and conquered Morgoth (the Lucifer of Middle Earth).
The Valar do indeed defeat Morgoth and bring him back to Valinor in chains. But the battles between the Valar and Morgoth cause massive upheavals and damage and change the face of Middle Earth forever. This is what happens when such powerful forces battle each other directly in the physical world.
Christ and Lucifer understand this, and so the great game that is played between the two of them for the souls of mankind is an indirect one. Both seek to lead humanity in one direction or the other, toward salvation and grace or toward eternal suffering and damnation. Their game never ends, and it will go on until the end of time.
It might amuse you to know that the undead have a very small role to play in all of this. You see, from time to time, Christ will redeem a soul that has been trapped in hell. When that happens, Christ contacts us, and we go into hell, get the soul and bring it to him. How does this work? It’s simple: the undead can travel directly into hell, and Lucifer cannot detect or stop us.
This drives Lucifer crazy, and he hates us for it! But he cannot stop us from entering hell, nor can he track us while we are there. And even if he could, he could not destroy us, for we move under the protection of Christ.
This is why Lucifer hates the undead. He regards us as traitors, thinking that we should be among his many demons. Lucifer has never accepted that we were once human, and thus our loyalty is to Christ, not to him.
And this, my dear frens, is also why Lucifer tried to destroy me when I made the mistake of looking into his eyes at our first meeting. Had Christ not intervened to save me, I would not be writing this post for you now.
Just between you and me, I think Christ knew exactly what Lucifer would do and decided to play a little prank on me.
Well, I told you Christ has a sense of humor, didn’t I? 😉
